The Upcoming iPhone 8 Flaunts A Plastic 'All Curve' Display[VIDEO]
Apple is set to unveil the next generation iPhone, presumably iPhone 8 somewhere in 2017, which incidentally coincides with its 10th Anniversary. So, Apple will be planning something big for that event, unlike any other event.
Apple's new iPhone 8 is rumored to be having a large OLED display model. The OLED display is not made of glass, but of plastics.
As per Korean Herald, Apple has ordered millions of plastic display to Samsung for the supply as against the traditional LCD panels.
The news report further states that "The OLED version of the new iPhone will all be curved as Apple ordered all plastic OLED -- not glass -- from Samsung Display. Samsung is capable of supplying a little less than 100 million units of curved OLED displays to Apple".
And more importantly, the curved display is unlike the banana curve embraced by LG or other smartphones. It is presumed to be a "Quad-curve" phone as reported in Forbes. The Quad-curve display is made of plastic and is incorporated with a pressure-sensitive technology.
iPhone 8 display could have a similar or even better functionality than Samsung Galaxy Edge 7. The Quad-curve display, as we understand, will be touch sensitive to all four sides of the iPhone.
Apple chose plastics OLED curved display to prevent shattering of the glass display. Another reason, plastic can be curved or bent to any shape, which glass material doesn't permit. However, readers may be reminded that this plastic display is already adopted by Motorola's Moto Force. We got to tell you folks, it ain't break, but it gets dented and scratched easily, apparently, a new problem Apple needs to grapple with.
To obviate dents, Apple can think of a hardened plastic material. One more advantage of the plastic display is it is relatively cheaper than glass. But, the fans are allergic to word "Plastics", given the premium price it slaps on to the customers.
Other features of iPhone 8 include Edge-Edge display, Wireless charging, Touch sensitive home button with Touch ID fingerprint sensor. iPhone 8 may be launched in September 2017, the exact price is not known yet. Stay tuned for more release updates!
