We Will Talk To Aliens: METI Has Launched A Major Program Despites Warnings Of Human Destruction
Humanity is getting in touch with aliens from 2018 - despite warnings of a possible destruction of man on the planet Earth. The work has started on the program as Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence (METI) will send out signals into space in an effort to get in touch with aliens rather than expecting them to contact us.
Scientists have been warning against initiating message sending to aliens as it holds risks of entire humanity's destruction. Aliens, once alerted to our existence, might act in a hostile manner and destroy us. Stephen Hawking, the famous scientist, has warned against signaling to aliens and alerting them to our existence, reports Mail Online.
Hawking is of the opinion that humans should be cautious in sending any messages to aliens. He gives the example of Christopher Columbus when he first met the Native Americans and things "did not turn out to so well" for the Natives.
Professor Hawking expects that aliens may look at the humans as nothing more than bacteria growing on the planet and in this case they will wipe out the entire humanity, rather than just killing it. He sees that the aliens will not care about the humans at all.
No regulations are set as for whether messages should be sent to extra-terrestrials or what those messages should contain. That gives METI and other groups the full freedom to send out signals even though warnings of a possible danger are issued by the scientists, according to Press.
METI holds a different view of the whole matter as it believes that the message sending program intends to "learn and share information" only and that also if it is ever successful. The team at METI is looking into how to make the signal sending process as best as possible. Scientific and basic mathematical concepts are used for initial messages and they are put together in a way that could make sense to alien once delivered and received.
METI starts the program by investing $1million in renting powerful transmitters that can send out signals to space. In the past, the scientists have tried sending signals written onto plaques and a record and also radio messages out into the universe but they did not get any response as it is unclear if they were ever received. Scientists agree that so far the human efforts have failed to contact aliens.
