Qualcomm To Reveal More Details On Snapdragon 835 at CES 2017
Qualcomm has revolutionized the smartphone and wearables industry by manufacturing powerful chips that have made it into billions of devices. The company has now announced its flagship processor to date named Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 which is an octa-core processor.
Qualcomm has announced that they will reveal more details about in Snapdragon 835 processor in January 2017 at the Consumer Electronics Show which will take place in Las Vegas from Jan. 5 to 8. The company made this announcement through their official Twitter handler.
As per Qualcomm, they have partnered with Samsung Electronics to create the revolutionary Snapdragon 835 processor using their 10nm FinFET process technology. Samsung will fabricate these chips in their foundry.
"We are pleased to have the opportunity to work closely with Qualcomm Technologies in producing the Snapdragon 835 using our 10nm FinFET technology," said Jong Shik Yoon, who heads up Samsung's foundry business.
The 10nm manufacturing process will help create a really small chip which will require less power to operate and ultimately run cooler. Qualcomm says that Snapdragon 835 will require 40% less power than previous generation of chips. The highly anticipated processor will come with QuickCharge 4.0 technology which promises 5 hours of battery life with just 5 minutes of charge. The charging times are also reduced by over 20% that means a smartphone can be charged 50% in just 15 minutes.
Snapdragon 835 is an SoC (System on Chip) which means that modem and graphics processor are built on the same chip. Qualcomm's Adreno 540 GPU takes up the graphics tasks and is believed to be around 30% faster than the current-gen Adreno 530 GPU reports Android Authority.
However, its power will be judged only when we see it running on a smartphone. Snapdragon 835 SoC also features Snapdragon X16 modem which supports Cat.16 LTE speeds. The theoretical maximum speed that can be achieved is 1Gbps but that depends on the network provider.
