The New Strategy To Test the Malaria Vaccine
Malaria has cost the lives of too many over the years. The weak, children and people with other diseases get affected way too much and it seems, although precautions can be taken, but there is no proper way to eradicate the existence of mosquitoes that might be spreading the disease. This is where a general test came in, where people were actually bitten by mosquitoes to see what can be done about the disease.
As absurd as it sounds, but the researchers had injected, somehow, genetically weakened malaria parasites into the system of the lab mosquitoes. Now, these mosquitoes were made to infect volunteers of the lab with these parasites. How would that help? Well, this would create a sense of immunity within the bodies of the volunteers, reported The Washington Post.
Our body is made in such a way, that it can cure from within itself, if it knows how to fight the parasite. So, when the parasite is being introduced to the body, the weakened part helps the body to find some antidote of sort against it, and protect itself in case it is being hit again by parasite of such calibre. The Weakened part is important. For had the parasite been fully functional or healthy it might have slowed down the body from figuring out a way around it, since they are genetically weakened the body will not only fight against it, but it will stop any further disease caused because of the parasite, revealed Health Map.
The researchers had grown "genetically attenuated parasites" in the mosquitoes and allowed the volunteers to hold their hand out for at least 150 to 200 bites from these mosquitoes. This is because, it is yet to be discovered as to how one can grow these parasites, out from the glands of the mosquito. This way, it will not only easier to spread a number of such mosquitoes, but it will also help the mass to not get affected by this deadly disease, that would cost the lives of nearly half a million people, worldwide.
