AMD Launches Vega At CES 2017
AMD has rivalled NVidia by launching their newest graphics architecture called Vega. It has potentially trailed NVidia's Titan X which is a really powerful graphics card.
AMD Vega has been launched at CES 2017 and it is said to appeal more than just the gamers. As per ZDNet, it is the most powerful GPU memory architecture currently. Let's dive into the details of AMD Vega architecture.
Memory Architecture is unmatched
AMD Vega has an entirely new memory architecture featuring a high bandwidth cache and a controller. The cache makes use of HBM2 (High Bandwidth Memory 2) technology allowing for double pin transfer rates up to 2GT/s (Giga Transfers per second). Vega architecture is optimised for streaming very large datasets and can address upto 512TB of virtual address space.
Next-gen Geometry pipeline
AMD Vega allows for more than 200% throughput-per-clock compared to last generation Radeon architectures. It also brings a better load balancer to deliver consistent performance and brings higher level of efficiency while processing complex geometry.
Next-generation Compute Engine
As per reports from PCWorld, the Vega has advanced compute engine which is capable of 512 8-bit operations per clock or 256 16-bit operations per clock or 128 32-bit operations per clock.
AMD Vega is a really powerful platform and the demo showcased by AMD in December. AMD played sublime DOOM on a pre-released Vega 10 card with everything cranked up to Ultra settings on a 4K resolution. AMD Vega was consistent at 60-70 fps while NVidia's GTX 1080 could not manage even 60 fps. Considering this fact, AMD Vega is expected to be a behemoth of a graphics chip with a very powerful core delivering best performance.
GPU's powered by AMD Vega technology are expected to launch in first half of 2017 and if price competitively, they can rival NVidia's denomination on the market currently. But NVidia might come up with an answer to that soon.
