NASA: Discovered Comets Plunging Into A Young Star HD 172555
Some interesting activities have been spotted into a 23 million years old young star which is so young. The star is known as HD 172555 and it resides 95 light years from earth.
According to NASA, the Hubble Space Telescope from NASA has spotted and discovered comets plunging into the young star HD 172555. This rain of comets was detected by the telescope. A number of exocomets were detected plunging into the young star.
Exocomets are the comets which are outside of the earth's solar system. These types of comets were not seen directly by the astronomers but it was inferred by the gases which they left through their icy nucleus after getting vaporized.
As per Yahoo News, this type of phenomenon has also been observed in two other star systems apart from the solar system, where the earth is located. The star system, where this phenomenon has been observed is aged less than 40 million years old but earth's solar system is more than 5 billion years old.
Apart from providing a perception about the past and present activity of the comets present in earth's solar system, this activity provides some proof about gravitational stirring by some Jupiter-sized planet which is unseen. In this plane, comets which are diverted by huge objects gravity are hurtled into the star.
This activity also represents active teenage years of the stars. This can also derive the theory that what went in the past when comets were bombarded in earth's inner solar system including the planet earth. These star ruminating comets can make life possible because apart from carrying water it also has life-forming elements in it such as carbon to terrestrial planets.
Hubble also shows that these activities around the young star looks and moves like a comet but still it is not confirmed they are comets or rocky like asteroids. This will be confirmed upon knowing the composition of these star grazers.
HD 172555 is a part of Beta Pictoris Moving Group, which is a collection of stars which are formed or born from the same stellar nursery.
