Binge Drinking Leads To Overeating And Obesity [STUDY]
Binge means excessive indulgence in an activity, especially drinking alcohol or overeating. A recent study finds binge drinking and eating related.
According to Fox News an experiment was carried out on mice to find out the connection between binge eating and drinking. Mice were kept on alcohol for three days after being kept in normal conditions and the result showed that they were eating more while in alcoholic conditions as compared to their normal condition.
Denis Burdakov a leading scientist at the Francis Crick Institute in London said "Our data suggest that alcohol sustains fundamental appetite signals, (and does) not just disinhibit their behavioral manifestation," The results show that certain hunger-inducing cells of the brain called Agrp neurons are activated by alcohol intake and it is the critical step in alcohol boosted overeating.
It has been seen that this phenomenon of alcohol led overeating generally takes place in people who are obese and heavy drinkers. In a survey in Public Health England last month it was seen that 8 out of 10 middle aged adults indulged in either too much drinking or too little exercise giving a major invitation to heart ailments and other simultaneous diseases.
As per a report published in the Nature, alcohol led overeating is in practice since the 5th century AD. The scientists are of the opinion that this kind of eating leads to disregard to societal barriers while eating and the brain's appetite controlling signals are negatively functioned by nutrients. The starvation-activated Agrp cells are at the thick of these activities.
Ethanol (EtOH) present in alcohol is the most calorie dense nutrient after fat and is the cause to obesity due to alcohol led overeating. It is very dangerous for the heart and builds up the major part in alcohol induced eating. EtOH stimulates eating and creates a state of starvation in the mind. However the prime cause that leads to the passing of casual signals between EtOH and the brain remains elusive as establishing such a fact might require a demonstration of EtOH-induced overeating to be prevented due to a particular type of interference via a molecularly defined pathway.
Alcohol induced overeating is one of the major modern lifestyle problem. It should be curbed at the earliest to lead a normal and healthy life.
