Sony discontinues the PlayStation Live Events Viewer app for PS3 and PS4 users in North America from January 10, 2016. Those who own PlayStation 4 will not miss much though. They can still buy their favorite live events from the PlayStation Store and watch them directly from their console.

The Live Events you purchase from the PlayStation Store get added to your 'My Videos' collection and you can access it directly from your console whenever you want.

GameSpot reports that there are no options for the old PS3 systems though. Their users will simply have to upgrade their systems to get access to Live Events.

The Live Events viewer app allowed users to access the latest and greatest sports, music, fights, and other Live Events streaming through the app. It was launched in 2013 for PS3, and in 2014 for PS4. The gaming console users could access both free and paid live content through the app.

An email sent by the Sony Interactive Entertainment to the PlayStation owners in North America, as reported by the Yibada, mentioned that it is going to shut down its live events streaming app. No explanation was offered for the discontinuation of the app though. It also mentioned thatPS4 owners will be to enjoy a new and improved Live Events experience.

The email did not mention any replacement service for the PS3 owners. The older console is becoming obsolete anyways, and it is expected that more and more services for it are expected to shut down in due time.

PS3 is now 11 years old. It was initially launched in 2006. Part of the seventh generation of game consoles, PS3 introduced social gaming for the PlayStation line for the first time. It was also the first game console to feature Blue-Ray Disc format.

According to gaming experts, people are not going to miss the Live Events app service because it was not being used much.
