Dax Shepard To Write, Direct And Star In The 'CHiPs' Movie
Warner Bros. have announced the release date of the "CHiPs" movie as March 24, 2017. The first trailer of the movie is already out. The feature film is an adaptation of the TV series of the same name which used to air in the US from 1977 to 1983.
Dax Shepard is writing, directing, and also starring in this American action comedy movie. According to the Collider, he will be playing the role of Jon Baker in the movie who is a motorcycle cop. Baker is a beaten-up officer looking to put his life back together. Michael Peña will play his partner Frank Llewelyn "Ponch" Poncherello. Ponch, on the other hand, is an undercover FBI agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist in which an ex-cop might be involved. The two are officers of the California Highway patrol at Los Angeles.
Baker is shown to have exceptional biking skills while the Ponch is a hardened professional and is quite street-savvy. The trailer hints that the comedy in the movie is based on two straight men having some 'gay' intimate moments.
In the TV show, Baker's role was played by Larry Wilcox while Erik Estrada played the 'Ponch'.
The film cast includes Adam Brody, David Koechner, Jessica McNamee, Kristen Bell, Michael K. Williams, Ryan Hansen, and Vincent D'Onofrio (who will play the villain or the bad cop in the movie).
The Slash Film points out that when the TV shows like "Baywatch" and "CHiPs" are turned into movies, they seem to try too hard to be something like '21 Jump Street' and main the R-rated flavor of action and comedy. The "CHiPs" trailer seems to justify this theory.
The PG-13 movie trailer does little to impress us. The spark between the lead pair is painfully missing.
