Details on the 2018's 'Tomb Raider' Reboot, 'Badlands' Daniel Wu Added to the Cast.
Alicia Vikander's 'Lara Croft' will get a co-star to help her on her journey. Former 'Badlands' star Daniel Wu has just been confirmed as the newest member of 'Tomb Raider' big-screen reboot. The video game adaptation is quite anticipated by the fans, as the last time an adaptation was released were at the early 2000's with Angelina Jolie as the main protagonist.
Since this is a reboot, which means the story will start at the early days of Lara's tomb raiding days where she's inexperienced and untested. As reported by variety, Daniel Wu will portray a ship captain named Lu Ren who helps Lara in her quest to find her father.
The plot of the movie carries a family (in this case, father) motivated plot just like its predecessor, with a few differences here and there of course. In that movie, Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie)'s father, Lord Croft (played by Jon Voight Jolie)had already died but he leaves a few clues and hints of his unfinished business in his family's mansion for lara to find. And when she finally finds it all, she starts a journey across the world to finish what her father had started. While the official plot release of this movie is Lara's journey to find her father.
More about the movie, Hollywood reporter states that both MGM and Warner.Bros co-producing the movie with MGM seeing the production. They bought the license from Square Enix Ltd who took over the original developer of the game, Eidos. MGM sent Cassidy Lange to oversee the project with WB's Niija Kuykendall.
This reboot follows the same fashion as the video game version, where in 2013, Square Enix rebooted the title with an origin story which set in the highlands somewhere around Japan. With Wu's character named Lu Ren, we can safely assume that this movie will also set in Asia, with somewhere around China being the main contender of the set.
The movie will be directed by Roar Urthaug with script from Geneva Robertson-Dworet. We can see Alicia Vikander's depiction of the famous Lara Croft March 18, 2018
