The Pros and Cons of Consuming Coffee for People With ADHD

With the rise of today's worldwide coffee culture, there's an interesting study results that coincides with coffee, especially for people with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, or ADHD for short. The study suggests that the right amount of daily coffee consumption could make people with the disease more attentive and more concentrated enough to go through their daily work life.

The Pros

As reported by Health Central, the study states that a cup of coffee can increase focus and help with mental alertness. What differs coffee from stimulants is that it is not as effective than other prescription drugs but it does have the same effect in calming down people with ADHD. There are claims saying they slept better after they drank a cup of coffee.

But there's a few guidelines before using caffeine as a dopamine stimulant for people with ADHD. Products such as coffee, tea, and soda have different caffeine levels. While people who had the disease, each have a different amount of caffeine they can consume.

The Cons

 According to Health Line, there are downsides with the use of caffeine to treat ADHD. One of them is to use it only in the morning and avoid it in the evening or night. With different doses used for every people with that disease, it very suggested to seek doctor's guidance before using this method as a way to enhance one's concentration.

Due to its lack of effectiveness, coffee is a temporary solution for people with ADHD. When its effects wear off, they're most likely feel irritated, tired and anxious. And the body will have the need to consume caffeine all the time. If over-used, however, there will be side effects such as increased heart rates and blood pressure. Followed with respiratory problems and hand tremors. It's better to avoid those side effects by seeking guidance from physicians.
