Young-nim Song, the owner of Daeji Daeji in Flushing, welcomed everyone for a free bowl of hearty new year's ricecake soup. Even though it is not particularly for business, she said smiling, "It's my pleasure to serve the community."

One and a half years ago, Song and her 2 sisters opened the restaurant with a business philosophy of "serving the community."

She is busy from early in the morning, visiting 5 different markets in search for the best quality vegetables and side dishes for the day. This is her everyday routine. For Daeji Daeji, her philosophy of running the restaurant is to serve the best quality foods.

When asked about the motive to continue this effort, she said, "Everyone is happy when they eat. It's a great joy to see their happy faces and it is my pleasure to give them the best dishes to enjoy at the restaurant."

When you order one dish in Daeji Daeji, it means there are 20 side dishes that come alongside.

Deliciously grilled pork belly, marinated with wine, curry and soybean, is the most popular menu in this restaurant. Through numerous trials and efforts, they also developed many kinds of creative sauce -  sweet and spicy, mustard lemon -  to lighten up the greasy pork belly. Grilled Kimchi that gives savory taste along with pork belly and barbeque are more than promising to satisfy the taste of meat lovers.

While pork belly is generally known as fattening, it actually has so many benefits. According to research, it gives  rejuvenating energy, helps anemia and heavy metal detox, promote growth and healthier skin, prevent adult disease and Alzheimer's, and is good even when you're on a diet.

"Korean food is still a mystery for a lot of people" said Young-nim Song, "so we plan to incorporate new ways to make it more familiar to Americans through developing our menu and sauce."
