'The Walking Dead': Death Of Major Casts Due To Salary Dispute?
There have been a lot of reports lately about the alleged issue on the salaries of "The Walking Dead" cast members. Though being one of the highest rated TV shows, the cast members of "The Walking Dead is said to be earning less per episode compared to their hollywood peers.
According to Forbes, the two biggest stars of "The Walking Dead" did not even hit the $100,000 mark when it comes to their per episode salaries. Andrew Lincoln, who plays "The Walking Dead" lead character Rick Grimes, reportedly earns about $90,000 per episode while Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon, is paid $80,000 per episode.
Though the above mentioned amounts are already substantial, it is nothing compared to the per epsiode salaries of the lead cast members of other hit TV shows. Lead cast members of hit TV comedy show "The Big Bang Theory" has negotiated a $1million per episode which may even increase now that another contract extension negotiation is currently underway.
To better understand the amounts mentioned, the lead cast of "The Big Bang Theory" makes more in a single 30minute episode of the show compared to what the two lead "The Walking Dead" cast memberHollywoods will make for the entire duration of a season. That is how huge the discrepancy between the two paychecks is.
According to reports, the main reason why the stars of "The Walking Dead" cannot use the show's popularity to demand a pay increase is because producers of the show have shown no qualms in killing lead cast members in the past. The fact that a demand for a higher salary may result to being killed in the show is said to have served as a deterrence for cast members like Lincoln and Reedus from demanding more.
Recent reports suggest that the two main cast members of "The Walking Dead" will be having substantial pay increase for the succeeding seasons of the walking dead. Lincoln will allegedly be paid $618,000 and Reedus $550,000 per episode in "The Walking Dead" season seven and eight.
