Rock-Eating Mother, Teresa Widener: Meet The 45-Years-Old Woman From Virginia Who Enjoys Eating Rock
A woman from Virginia, America has started eating dirt and rocks 20 years ago, Teresa Widener, 45-years-old, is suffering from an eating disorder that makes her eat unusual things for enjoyment.
"I have taken the taste of stone from the ground and crushing them under my teeth I enjoy. I'm crushed rocks easily in my mouth. I am sure that I am reassured when I rock the house, it is enough to know that I am the stone house," Teresa said. The mother of two also added that she enjoys sitting on rocks and dust but she doesn't know why, all she knows is that she enjoys doing it.
Meanwhile, a therapist suggests that her behavior is unusual because most patients who are suffering the same eating disorders are likely to eat anything -- textiles, paper, wood, iron, etc. Contrary to Teresa's belief that rocks help in the treatment of her iron deficiency, her doctor stated that eating rocks and dirt may only cause infection in the body. It may even cause "rupture of the tissues and cause internal bleeding," as per Cool Articles.
However, Teresa's eating disorder is improved by her new husband, Jim, as he helped her cut down her unusual habit of eating rock and dirt. Although she was not able to kick the habit immediately, her husband aids in reducing her addiction.
With her new found love, Teresa lessens her strange eating habit because Jim makes her feel better. She stated that whenever she feels down or stressed, she eats tiny pieces of rock as she enjoys its earthy taste. "Jim makes me so happy I've started eating less. But everyone has bad days and when I have one only rock can make me feel better," she said.

Teresa's cravings for rocks and dirt is caused by a medical condition call Pica. This condition causes a patient to become obsessed with eating unusual objects, as per Huffington Post.
