The 1880's rivalry story between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse to create electricity in America is the central plot for the movie "The Current War'. Benedict Cumberbatch, who has already proved his biopic performances through his roles as Alan Turing, Julian Assange and Stephen Hawking is without doubt to be the Thomas Alva Edison on screen. Edison's rival George Westinghouse will be portrayed by the 'Man of Steel' actor, Michael Shannon.
George Westinghouse was an American entrepreneur and inventor, who wanted alternate current in America, while Edison favored direct current. And that started the rivalry between them. The first look of Benedict Cumberbatch as Edison in "The Current War" was first appeared on The Wrap on Jan 21, 2017. The Weinstein Co's "The Current War" will also be showing the struggle of Nikola Tesla, due to the rivalry between Edison and George Westinghouse.

The Deadline reports that the movie "The Current War" is expected to release this year. Alfonzo Gomez- Rejon, the director of 'Me and Earl and The Dying Girl' will be directing the movie. Other than being the Edison for the movie, Benedict Cumberbatch is also an executive producer of 'The Current War' along with Adam Ackland. Harvey Weinstein, Timur Bekmambetov and Basil Iwanyk comprise the producer team of the movie.
The script of "The Current War" will be handled by Michael Mitnick. The movie "The Current War" is packed with immense acting talents other than Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Shannon. The role of Nikola Tesla will be handled by Nicholas Hoult. Other actors who are the cast of the movie will be Tom Holland, Katherine Waterston, Tuppence Middleton and Matthew Macfadyen.
