‘Aquaman’ Movie Latest News & Update: Nicole Kidman in Early Negotiations to Join DC Cinematic Universe
When asked about his choice to play the mother of the water-breathing hero, "Aquaman," director James Wan insists that Nicole Kidman is his top choice. "The Conjuring" director might get his wish as Nicole Kidman is in early negotiations to join the DC Cinematic Universe.
According to the Daily Mail, Nicole Kidman, 49, will play the mother of "Aquaman," Atlanna, if the deal is made. Interestingly, Kidman is only 12 years older than Jason Momoa who plays title role.
Based on the popular DC Comics, Atlanna left her kingdom, in which she is royalty, and fell in love with a lighthouse keeper. Sometime later, she gives birth to a boy who later would become the hero "Aquaman."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the official offer is going out Monday and the "Aquaman" big wigs are optimistic that the deal will push through since Kidman has been Wan's top choice. The award-winning actress has already done work for DC when she played Dr. Chase Meridian, Bruce Wayne's love interest in the Val Kilmer starrer, Batman Forever.
Kidman was offered the role of the DC Comics adaptation of "Wonder Woman" a few years back but had to beg off due to scheduling conflict. Filming of "Aquaman" will begin in April 2017.
In other "Aquaman" news, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is also in early talks to star as the villain Black Manta. Abdul-Mateen, who starred in Netflix's "The Get Down," was in consideration for the role of Lando Calrissian in the stand-alone Han Solo Star Wars movie.
Other high-profile artists have been confirmed to join the cast of "Aquaman." Amber Heard will portray Mera, "Aquaman's" love interest, Willem Dafoe will play the hero's advisor, Dr. Vulko, and Patrick Wilson, who already worked with James Wan on "The Conjuring," will star as the villain Orm, "Aquaman's" half-brother.
Fans will have their first look at Jason Momoa's "Aquaman" in the highly-anticipated movie, "Justice League" on November 17, 2017. Nicole Kidman and the rest of the "Aquaman" crew will debut on the big screen on October 5, 2018.
