WhatsApp Introduces Two Step Verification To Improve Account Security Of The Users
The free and cross platform messaging app, WhatsApp has launched a latest security feature for all its users know as the two step verification. As per the feature, it's an additional layer of protection that requires passwords when verifying or resetting the account.
WhatsApp has always claimed to be the safest messaging app offering an end to end encryption. In simple words, if the messages are intercepted, there won't be any ways to read it. Keeping this in mind, the popular messaging app has come up with the latest two step verification concept as Daily Mail Online reported.
The latest security measure fights the fear of getting the WhatsApp account hacked. In fact, once the account gets hijacked the hacker might be able to access all the data and could even read private conversations and messages. The two step verification requires users to set up a passcode, preferably a six digit code. Users also need to set up an optional backup email address.
The two step verification prevents anyone from stealing the user's SIM card, taking the user's phone number and using it to take over their WhatsApp account to impersonate the user as 9To5 Mac reported. To launch the two step verification, the users first, need to tap on the Account setting option.
Next, users need to tap Enable that would display the screen. The screen would then ask the users to feed in the six digit passcode , that the WhatsApp users need to enter when registering the phone number with the app.
However, the WhatsApp users also need to enter the code when upgrading the device. Due to this, users are advised to choose passcodes which they can easily remember or memorize. Users also need to set up an email address, but this is an optional feature.
When users set up WhatsApp on a new device, they would be prompted to enter the passcode. The users can't reminder feature without disabling the two step verification. Interestingly, the app would also ask the passcode periodically when launching the app. This would help users remember the code.
