Depression could be a hard time for many people. Yet, it is also hard for someone seeing the person they love battle depression with nothing in mind regarding what they need to do. Fortunately, some best ways were revealed to be the things someone who battles depression would need.

Wakefield Express reported that a study published in Developmental Psychology had 1,407 couples studied for six years. Results had found out that future feelings of both men and women were affected due to a partner’s given support to their significant other.

Men’s confidence were found out to be boosted with just supporting a depressed partner. On the opposite side, women were found to have a self-esteem increased and reduced depression from the support of their partner. Thus it was stated by Professor Matthew Johnson that, “Efforts from a partner to help alleviate stress may prevent the development or worsening of mental health problems and, in fact, could help keep the relationship healthy.”

It was also advised by Johnson that partners should always lend an “invisible support” for their loved one. Simple gestures like washing dishes which has not yet been seen by the depressed other should be done was exampled. Johnson then concluded that “You can offer support, just do not draw attention to it.”

With that said, partners should then help their beloved when battling depression. Thankfully, Medical Daily gave the best ways to help their partner alleviate depression. The first way is stated to venture out and feel the fresh air. Science then backs up this method since a 2014 study on Ecopsychology found out that 30 minutes of walking outside to breathe fresh air indeed brushes off depression.

The second method is identified to be exercising. Exercise is then said to be better than antidepressants to remove depression since it releases brain chemicals like neurotransmitters, endorphins, and endocannabinoids to make the brain feel good according to a 2004 study. Exercise is like walking which is also said to let the person be distracted in order to remove the worries that surround them.

The last best way is mentioned to be having a sense of gratitude. It was advised that people should let their depressed partner think of blessings and whatever they could be thankful for rather than thinking of problems per 2011 study. The study then voices out that depressed people should boost their positive mentality and behavior since positivity have big effects on battling depression.
