Grammy Awards News: ‘Hello’ Singer Wins 5 Grammys Over Beyonce’s 2
It was a reminiscent of "Mean Girls" at the Grammy Awards, while Adele swept five Grammy's this year. She won the top three awards, taking home the statuettes for song of the year, album and record. It was a shocking victory over Beyonce.
Adele won awards for all the five nominations, including her comeback album "25". Along with this, she also won the Grammys for her single "Hello". Accordng to The Independent, Beyonce, on the other hand, had gone to the awards show with nine nominations for her album, "Lemonade".
However, the singer managed to grab only two awards out of the nine nominations she had, ABC News reported. "My queen and my idol is Queen B. I adore you," said Adele to Beyonce, when she accepted the award. She also claimed that the album Lemonade was exceptional.
Adele was right on competing with the "Drunk in Love" singer. In fact, Beyonce was the only artist along with Adele to be nominated for all three categories, song, album and record of the year.
"I can't possibly accept this award," Adele said during the acceptance speech. Later,at the backstage the singer claimed that she really thought Beyonce would win the Album of the Year award.
Interestingly, the Grammy Awards saw something unimaginable this year. Adele simply broker her Grammys in half so that she could give away the crowning portion to Beyonce.
Beyonce took the Grammys stage when she performed two songs from her album "Lemonade". She was introduced by stylist and her mother, Tina Knowles. The singing sensation and the soon to be mommy also received great applause from the audience that included Jay Z and daughter, Blue Ivy.
Even though Adele won the biggest awards of the night, there were others too who won. These included Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling". It won the award for best song written. The late David Bowie, also won 4 Grammy awards for all the categories he was nominated for.
