Regular Vitamin D Intake Better Than Flu Vaccination
Recent research appealed that vitamin D could be the answer with the outbreak cases of flu and cold. According to what the researchers found this vitamin D known as a vital vitamin for bones could have a significant role in having a stronger immune system.
This vitamin D is well-known to be an essential element in having an enough amount of calcium and phosphate in the body. In this manner, this vitamin helped to have a healthier teeth and body.
However, a recent study published in the British Medical Journal, the researchers assess the overall effect of vitamin D on how will it affect the risk of acute respiratory tract infection. In the researchers'' study, it found out that this vitamin D is a safe and this could be a protection in respiratory tract infection such as flu and colds.
Also, the team at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) agreed upon this study. In its overall study, this in one in every 33 people who is taking vitamin D supplement would be free from suffering flu and cold.
On the other hand, having all the good benefits being presented this is still debatable. According to Professor Louis Levy, the head of nutrition science Public Health England (PHE), the study between vitamin D and infection is not a sufficient to claim that vitamin D could reduce the risk of having respiratory tract infection.
However, Professor Martin Hewison, from the University of Birmingham and the Society for Endocrinology found this study "striking." He even added, "I agree with the authors that this study supports a new indication for vitamin D beyond its established benefits for bone health," BBC News reported.
In some cases, children who experience vitamin D deficiency tend to have weaker and softer bones while with adults this deficiency will lead to osteomalacia - causing severe bone pain and muscle aches. And too much vitamin D can cause heart and kidney problems.
