Nintendo's 'Super Mario Run' Didn't Meet Sales Expectations [VIDEO]

Nintendo has released "Super Mario Run" in Dec. 2016 with much hype and high expectations. But the excitement was short-lived as the game didn't do as expected in the market.

Super Mario Run" was released as a paid module with the pay-once-to-unlock platformer. The side-scrolling and auto-running video game is the most popular video game date back to 1985 when it has first launched. Though the game managed 78 million downloads as on end Dec. 16, but still it could not hit the revenue figures expectations by Nintendo, according to Euro Gamer.

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima said that the game "did not meet our expectations". "Super Mario Run" run was launched in Dec. 16 on iOS platform and in Mar. 17 on the Android platform.  The game was downloaded by 40 million within 4 days of launch. Everyone thought the game will deliver extraordinary sales on the back of huge downloads. But, that's where it lost the game.

"Super Mario Run" was free and unlimited for its first world. But, users willing to go further to explore the game need to pay $9.99 up front, earlier it was $7.99 at the Apple Store. As of Dec. 16, only 4 million out of the 78 million downloads have gone ahead for unlocking the paid version. The sales figures after Android launch are yet to be seen, but without a doubt, there will be a surge in downloads for the game. Nintendo made it clear that despite lackluster sales, it will not give "Super Mario Run" free for the full version.

"Super Mario Run" new character includes Yoshi, which can unlock the specifically colored Toads as rewards. Users can play the complete fire Bowser battle for free without any purchases. The game's RPG Fire Emblem Heroes is a success and garnering some revenue for the company, reveals IGN. The user needs to pay for the new and random Heroes character, which is fair and reasonable. Nintendo is planning to release two to three games every year to boost its revenues.
