Apple Is Working On Possible 8k Thunderbolt Display Designed For Mac Pro Users
Apple ended selling its Thunderbolt Display in June 2016. But the company managed to announce earlier of April its plan to manufacture a brand-new standalone display designed for the upcoming Mac Pro.
According to Macworld UK, the Thunderbolt Display will be fitted with pro designs. This latest display model will arrive ahead of Mac Pro. "As part of doing a new Mac Pro — it is, by definition, a modular system — we will be doing a pro display as well," Phil Schiller Apple's head of marketing said.
It can be recalled that Apple releases its 27-inch Thunderbolt Display and went on sale initially in July 2011. The Cupertino-based company usually makes its announcement about the Mac Pro line-up during the Worldwide Developers Conference. Therefore, fans would probably hear its plan for the most-awaited device alongside the new display at WWDC this June. Both hardwares will take their initial shipment in 2018.
The Thunderbolt Display is reported to feature 5K resolution, like the 27-inch 5K iMac with 5120 x 2880 pixels. However, a report on Pike's Universum claimed that the latest display would arrive in an 8K resolution. Basing on that, the hardware is likely to go even wider than 30-inches.
In fact, an 8K resolution is also offered by a mega high-definition TV. A device must possess image dimensions of 7680×4320 in order to provide 8,000 pixels. Dell also sells a 32-inch UltraSharp 8K display, although it has a stunning price tag of $5,000.
Furthermore, the Thunderbolt Display is likely to pack GPU causing the device to produce high-resolution graphics once attached to lower-powered Macs like MacBooks.
According to Engadget, the Thunderbolt Display can charge matching Apple laptops. It has a built-in networking that produces a one-cable solution to anchor MacBooks as well.
The Thunderbolt Display is possible to cost £899 / $1, 112. The 5K iMac, which is Apple's lowest-spec cost £1,449 / $1, 792. Therefore, the new display can be also expected to arrive at around £1,000 / $1, 237 or slightly more.
