Social Media Users Have Opportunity to Join Journalists in NASA’s MMS Spacecraft Preview
Want to try your hand at reporting like the pros? Well you may be in luck if you're a social media enthusiast, because NASA has a special mission they're opening up to you.
NASA's media credentials are not easy to come by, and even as a professional journalist your opportunities to cover a NASA mission are few and far between. But that doesn't make the opportunity completely intangible to you. As a part of their "Social Credentials" promotion, NASA is inviting 25 savvy social media users to cover the debut of the Magnetospheric Multiscale, MMS, spacecrafts on their mission media day, scheduled Friday, Oct. 17 at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
"NASA Social participants will have the opportunity to join members of the news media to see the four identically-outfitted MMS spacecrafts and tour some of Goddard's state-of-the-art facilities" NASA spokesperson said in the press release that invited social media users to apply. "Participants will be given the same access as news media in an effort to align the experience of social media representatives with those of traditional media."
The opportunity will allow you and your social media friends to gain an in-depth view behind the MMS mission to Mars, and even the opportunity to interview NASA researchers, scientists and developing engineers that all worked on the spacecraft project.
What can you expect?
At the Goddard Space Flight Center, you can expect to hit all of the stops, from the Integration and Test Facility where MMS is being prepared for launch to the Magnetic Test Facility that simulates magnetic field environments. All the while posting so that your friends can follow along with the distinct hashtags #MMS and #NASASocial across NASA's many social media outlets.
Interested in applying and flying out to be a part of the history being made? The application is easy! Just be sure to fill everything out and to have your application in by 5pm EDT on this Thursday, Sept. 18.
