Michael Schumacher Latest News: F1 Racer Still 'Mute' & Unaware? 'Progress is Painfully Slow'
While Formula 1 racer Michael Schumacher has awoken from coma, he and his family are still going through some tough times during his recovery.
According to Latino Post, the legendary racer is being treated in his Swiss mansion near Lake Geneva. An insider told Express UK that Schumacher is currently mute and still has "limited awareness" of his surroundings.
The insider adds, "Progress is painfully slow. There is no miracle on the horizon."
The state of the racer is still unknown to the public as his family declared a total news blackout during this time, states Latino Post. Peter Hamlyn, a consultant neurological and spinal surgeon, tries to give a little insight concerning the F1 racer's condition on Express.
Hamlyn states, "What tortures the public is the same thing that tortures the family - progress is slow, progress is uncertain."
As an expert of head injuries in sports, Hamlyn adds, "If you look at severe head injury victims who go on to make a good recovery - and I'm not saying all do - it will always be a story of years."
He continues explaining, "The first months are dominated by questions of survival. Gradually as the weeks and months go by those questions of survival turn into questions of the quality of survival."
It seems that the racer's family has now reached the point wherein "questions of the quality of survival" are being raised. Schumacher survived and awoken from his coma after his ski accident at Meribel on December 29 2013.
For his family, the question still remains, "Will he fully recover?" Professor Jean-Francois Payen, who operated on the racer after the accident, along with a medical team of 15 have been taking care of Schumacher around the clock, reports Express.
Currently, a special clinic has been built on the Schumacher family home to allow medical experts to treat the racer. Express states that Schumacher is massaged every hour to stimulate muscle mass.
According to Payen, Schumacher's wife has been very strong during her husband's recovery period. He says, "She has displayed in every way an exceptional willpower. She knew the seriousness of the situation and the long road that lay before them. She looks at things very clearly and makes every effort, and give everything, which can help to improve the condition of her husband."
