'Suicide Squad' Joker, Jared Leto, Reveals Diet Plan for Character; Yoga Workout Secrets Revealed

Jared Leto has buffed up for his role as the Batman villain, Joker, for the movie "Suicide Squad." According to Celebrity Health Fitness, he recently posted a picture of his muscled physique for the movie on Instagram. The usually slim actor sported ripped arms and a fit body in the picture. 

Leto, who Celebrity Health Fitness claims to "look a decade younger" than his real age, revealed his secrets to maintaining his young look at 43 years of age. According to the site, following a vegan diet and doing some yoga workouts have helped the actor fight the aging process.  

The Examiner reports that Leto told GQ, "Twenty solid years of eating vegetarian/vegan and taking care of myself. That probably helps the preservation process. It's probably just down to sleep and diet." 

Dr. Katz, author of "Disease-Proof," explains on Celebrity Health Fitness why a vegetarian/vegan diet might help slow down the aging process. Dr. Katz states, "A diet of minimally processed foods close to nature - predominantly plants - is decisively associated with health promotion and disease prevention." 

Dr. Neal Barnard, author of "21- day Weight Loss Kickstart," supports Dr. Katz's thoughts on Celebrity Health fitness. He says, "Studies suggest that free radicals [toxic molecules that form in the body] contribute to aging. A vegan diet, ricah in fruits and vegetables, is full of antioxidants which help protect the body from damage by free radicals." 

As for his exercise routine, Examiner states that Leto not only does yoga but also hikes and cycles. "I'm a pretty adventurous hiker, so I like to crawl through the bush. I like to be outdoors," said Leto.  

Despite his recent weight gain for "Suicide Squad," however,  Examiner notes that Leto does not fully support actors gaining weight for their movies. Leto gained 67 pounds for the movie "Chapter 27," and later said that it took a great toll on him, both physically and psychologically.  

According to Examiner, Leto said after his weight gain, "To get into character I just ate giant pizzas and everything you know you're not supposed to eat. That's what you eat to gain weight like that." 

He warns young actors against changing weight for a character saying, "If you're a young actor reading this, you should never do that. It's really stupid. It's a mental and physical challenge. Putting on the weight was very difficult and very weird. I started every meal completely stuffed."
