Chick-fil-A Menu Adds Three New Items [Details]
Popular chicken chain Chick-fil-A will be boosting its menu with three new items.
According to The News-Press, the restaurant has three new products it will be testing in select Southwest Florida branches through the month of July.
Starting this week, a salad with broccolini and kale, a barbecue bacon sandwich as well as a loaded baked potato side dish option. Customer support will determine if the dishes will be carried over to the chain's regular menu that is available across more than 1,900 outlets across the United States.
The publication summarized the dishes to have the following breakdown:
- The Superfood Salad starts at only 80 calories and is a blend of broccolini and kale, tossed with a maple vinaigrette and served with a roasted-nut blend.
- The Smokehouse BBQ Bacon Sandwich features marinated grilled chicken topped with cheese, brown-sugar glazed bacon, lettuce and the chain's new Smokehouse BBQ sauce.
- The new baked potato side is is rubbed in kosher salt and served with butter, cheddar cheese, bacon and chives.
For customers who would like to check out the new items, the following Chick-fil-A locations will carry the products: Pine Island Road, Cape Coral; Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers; S. Tamiami Trail, Estero; Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte; Alico Road, south Fort Myers; Coastland Center, Naples; Naples Center, Naples; S. Tamiami Trail near Cypress Lake Drive, south Fort Myers.
The addition of more vegetables, especially the new salad, is part of the company's effort to introduce a healthier menu for its patrons. Last year, Chick-fil-A announced that the company is working on a five-year plan that will offer customers chicken raised without the use of any antibiotics.
Chick-fil-A made headlines last year when its CEO Dan Cathy made comments that triggered a nationwide same-sex controversy. Dan told the Baptist Press he was "guilty as charged" with regards to supporting traditional marriage.
"We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles," said Cathy.
After public outcry and condemnation, Cathy admits he regrets that the firm became associated with anti-gay attitudes and said (via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution), "Every leader goes through different phases of maturity, growth and development and it helps by [recognizing] the mistakes that you make." He added, "And you learn from those mistakes. If not, you're just a fool. I'm thankful that I lived through it and I learned a lot from it."
