In an emotional interview, singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne talked about her battle with Lyme disease.

In an interview last Monday on "Good Morning America", the singer talked about her struggle and battle with the disease. She was diagnosed last year while on tour.

According to a Good Morning America report, the "Complicated" singer is feeling a lot better and is expected to recover.

She is on multiple antibiotics treatment and on a lot of rest.

Her family and many of her fans who sent her letters, posters, video, and other get-well items made the singer feel better, she said.

"I sat there in my bed and I watched the videos and, like, did exactly what I'm doing now. I cried through the whole thing," she said.

"Honestly, I felt very, very loved. And it sounds silly saying it, but I really truly did feel my fans through the process."

Lavigne reportedly got teary eyed as she accounted her experiences to GMA special contributor, Jesse Palmer. According to The Huffington Post, she revealed that she was bedridden and that doctors were not able to properly diagnose her.

"They would pull up their computer and be like, 'Chronic fatigue syndrome.' Or, 'Why don't you try to get out of bed, Avril, and just go play the piano?' It's like, 'Are you depressed?'," Lavigne told Palmer.

The singer underwent blood tests before suspecting that she had Lyme disease. She went to a specialist to have her symptoms checked out.

"And the thing is, when you're a specialist, you also really know the disease inside and out and you can diagnose their symptoms," Lavigne explained.

Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by a bite of an infected tick. Early stage Lyme disease may cause flu-like symptoms, according to WebMD. If not treated immediately, it may result to arthritis, nerve problems, and heart problems.

Lavigne said that the experience gave her another perspective on life and now that she is better, she can't wait to go out and live her life.

Following the interview, Lavigne expressed embarrassment through an Instagram post on Monday. She also said she is grateful that she is recovering and "ready to help other people."

The Canadian singer will be performing her new single "Fly" on July 25, during the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony in Los Angeles. It will be her first public appearance since her Lyme disease diagnosis.
