Rachel McAdams of "The Notebook" may take the next female lead role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Benedict Cumberbatch's love interest in "Doctor Strange."

According to Heroic Hollywood, there are rumors that Marvel Studios has offered the "Mean Girls" actress a spot in the upcoming Doctor Strange film.

Tilda Swinton has been named as one of the actresses in the film, but she will not be the female lead. Screen Rant explains that Swinton's role is that of the Ancient One, who has more of a teacher-student relationship with Dr. Strange.

Seeing that the Marvel movie is yet to cast a female lead, multiple sources predict that McAdams will play the role of the love interest of the egotistical Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange.

According to Screen Rant, there are two prominent women in Doctor Strange's string of lovers: Sorceress Clea and Morgana Blessing.

Cinema Blend believes that Clea will most likely be the chosen love interest in Marvel's rendition of Doctor Strange.

Clea is the niece of Dormammu. She betrays her uncle in order to help Doctor Strange protect the earth, states the official Marvel website. Coincidentally, Dormammu is also tied to Baron Mordo, played by Chiwetel Ejifor, who will be Doctor Strange's main nemesis in the 2016 film.

Clea will be an ideal character for the Doctor Strange movie, since her storyline can be used in the sequel.

On the other hand, there is Morgana Blessing. Screen Rant explains that Morgana is a writer in the Marvel comic, who often switches roles from being Strange's friend to being his love interest.

Recently in comic, Morgana plays the love interest of Strange's brother, Victor or Baron Blood. Blessing's storyline can also continue on to the sequel of the Doctor Strange film and even to the "Avengers: Infinity Wars" storyline.

Like Clea, Morgana is tied to Baron Mordo. Moreover, she makes an appearance in "The Infinity Gauntlet: Aftermath" issue, states Comic Vine, which could mean that she is the connection between Doctor Strange and the upcoming Avengers movies.

Rachel McAdams will easily fit either of the two roles if she will be offered a role in the movie. She has had tremendous success as a female lead in several movies, among them "The Time Travelers Wife" and "About Time."

She has also played roles in action movies as well, such as "Sherlock Holmes." McAdams is currently working on season two of the HBO hit series, "True Detective."
