Oreo Thins Crispier, More Chocolatey With Fewer Calories Per Cookie

Oreo cookies have always been staple snacks for adults and kids alike. But the calories in these cookies can turn a simple treat to a curse as it can induce weight gain. This is probably why Oreo cookies are now getting a revamp, opting for a "thinner, crispier, more chocolatey yet fewer calories per cookie" look.

Big Story AP says that "Oreo Thins", Mondelez International Inc.'s latest product, will hit shelves by July 13 in the United States. This product will have the same look as the regular Oreo cookies except it will be skinnier and crispier.

It will still be rich in chocolatey goodness but most importantly, the calories in four cookies will only be 140, making it a better choice over three regular Oreo cookies with 160 calories.

However, the sad news is they can't be twisted and dunked in milk as the Oreo Thins will be advertised mostly to adults, the company adds.

Stefanie Tuder, a writer for Good Morning America, confirmed that the Oreo Thins are thinner by 4 millimeters than the regular Oreo cookies. She has also tested if the Oreo Thins can be twisted and dunked and found out that it is possible, but not easy. In three out of four tries, the cookies cracked before she even finished twisting them. She adds that the absorbency of the Oreo Thins to milk is slower by 18 seconds than the regular Oreo cookie.

Tuder concludes that she prefers Oreo Thins as it is crispier, more chocolatey, and has better cookie to cream ratio. However, she notes that it can easily break inside the packaging.

Huffington Post also writes that although the Oreo Thins are skinnier and has fewer calories per cookie, the public will not think of the product as a diet cookie.

Besides the fact that the taste is like a regular Oreo cookie, the four Oreo Thins cookies, though they have 20 less calories than the regular Oreo cookies, still contains 6 grams of fat and 12 grams of sugar.

Oreo Thins has a suggested retail price of $4.59. The product will be available in three permanent flavors - mint, golden, and original.
