'Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice' Release Date, Cast & Trailer: Ben Affleck to Star in Solo Batman Movie
Ben Affleck will get to continue his portrayal of Batman in his own feature film. Deadline has confirmed that Warner Bros. will be making a standalone Batman film starring Ben Affleck. In addition, the "Argo" director will not only star in his solo Batman film, but will also be directing it and co-writing the script with DC legend Geoff Johns.
Affleck will begin working on the movie after directing an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane's novel, "Live By Night." He had previously postponed the production of the adaptation to film "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice."
The script for the Batman movie is expected to be finished before the Oscar-winning star goes off to direct his second feature film. According to Deadline, Affleck and Johns make a super duo in terms of conceptualizing the script.
Johns seems to be the perfect co-writer, due to his extensive background with DC Comics. He is currently DC's chief creative officer and has worked on several comics himself including: Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Batman, Justice League and Superman.
While this is Johns' first time to work on a feature film, he does have experience in television. He has worked on several DC-inspired TV series like "Smallville," "Arrow" and "The Flash. He is also currently working on "Super Girl" with Greg Berlanti from CBS.
In terms of Batman, Johns has actually written several of the superhero's solo issues including both volumes of "Batman: Earth One," reports ComingSoon.net. Additonally, he is also responsible for the Caped Crusader's regular appearances in the Justice League comics.
It is still unclear if the solo Batman film will be tied to the other DC movies currently in the works, specifically "The Suicide Squad," which stars Jared Leto as the Joker, reports the AV Club. Seeing that DC comics is building up to the big collaboration film, "The Justice League," it might be possible that Affleck's Batman and Leto's Joker come head to head in the standalone film.
It is still uncertain when the solo Batman flick will be released. "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice" is due to come out on March 25, 2016, while "Justice League: Part One" will be released on November 17, 2017, reports ComingSoon.net.
Other DC films currently in the works are "Wonder Woman" and "The Flash," which most likely have storylines building up to the big Justice League movie. Henry Cavill portrayed Superman in his own solo movie, which DC has already connected to the Justice League storyline through the production of "Batman vs Superman." So it would make sense that Ben Affleck's standalone Batman flick will also be tied to the Justice League storyline.
