Mother Chooses to Save BMW's Window Over Trapped 3-Year-Old Son
Expensive car repair costs in mind, an unnamed Chinese mother declined prodding from firefighters to let them break into her BMW's window to immediately relieve her 3-year old boy. The toddler had been locked-in for about an hour.
Inquisitr writes that the boy was accidentally locked inside the vehicle as his parents were shopping around Yiwu City in central Zhejiang province of the People's Republic of China. As onlookers began crowding the scene, firefighters came looking to solve the matter instantly. The mother refused their plans.
Instead, she elected to wait longer for a locksmith to arrive while her son began crying. The boy was also seen clawing the car's window in an attempt to get free as her mother watched from the outside.
The mother seemed patient but responding firefighters were not. They ignored the woman's initial demand as soon as they observed that the boy was showing signs of deterioration due to the heat and lack of air inside the vehicle, according to Aol News.
In a statement for Zhejiang Online, one of the rescuers said it is life-threatening for children to be left inside a closed vehicle since the temperature within can escalate in a matter of minutes, reports Mirror.
News of the incident soon made its rounds on social media, garnering outrage and disbelief.
"The mother shouldn't have left her kid in the car in the first place. Even if the car did accidentally lock itself," Yahoo UK cited a comment from a netizen.
Another quipped, "It looks like the car is her real son."
The mother will probably remember this mishap every time she drives her (newly-windowed) BMW.
According to Shanghaiist, the Chinese are no strangers to stories such as this. This particular case follows similar reports of children being locked inside cars in China.
On June 27 in Hunan, a four-year-old boy died from heat exhaustion after his parents forgot him in the back of a stuffy car. Days ago in Shandong, a three-year-old girl died after her nursery school principal left her in a boiling hot car for nine hours.
Just a month ago, a 2-year-old girl died inside a car in Baltimore during a Father's Day tragedy. Her father left her to go on a drinking spree that caused him to pass out. The girl was recovered after being trapped inside the car for 16 hours. Inquisitr has the full report here.
