Fans got a sneak peak of the "X-Men: Apocalypse" set recently, after director Bryan Singer posted a picture on Instagram of a seemingly massive Egyptian set.

The picture reveals a statue of Anubis, the Egyptian god of the dead, towering over Singer. The director captioned the picture with a hashtag referring to the Indiana Jones adventure, "Raiders of te Lost Ark."

The hashtag also points out that the set featured in the picture is made from scratch and does not involve a green screen. Cinema Blend notes that Singer is taking a more practical approach towards the sets for "X-Men: Apocalypse."

The sets for the final installation of the X-men: Origins story have been either offsite or were built from scratch. It would seem that Singer is trying to rely on green screens as little as possible for this movie.

The Egyptian set, Singer revealed, hints at the idea that the audience may get to see Apocalypse's history as a ruling Pharaoh in Egypt, reports Cinema Blend.

Apocalypse, who is the titular antagonist in the movie, will be played by Oscar Issac, reports ComingSoon.net. He was first seen at the end credits of "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

In the end scene, Egyptian slaves were seen chanting Apocalypse's original name: En Sabah Nur. Cinema Blend explains that Apocalypse is believed to be one of the first ever cases of Homo Superior, or mutants in the world.

Being born in his time period combined with his incredible mutant powers led the Egyptians to conclude that he was a god. In the upcoming X-men movie, Apocalypse's tomb is disturbed, resulting in his awakening.

The former-Egyptian god wakes up in 1983 and is introduced to a world that is not to his liking, due to all the chaos and violence in the world. As a result, Apocalypse decided to gather followers to help him rebuild a society in which the strong thrive. Magneto, Psylocke, Storm and Angel aid Apocalypse in his endeavor.

It must be noted that Apocalypse does not differentiate between humans or mutants. He basically believes in the "survival of the fittest" regardless of genetic disposition.

Apocalypse's beliefs clash somewhat with Magneto, who believes mutants are more superior and therefore should rule over humanity. The differing ideologies between Apocalypse and Magneto, however, has not been discussed and might not be covered in the movie.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to premiere on May 27, 2016. Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will be reprising their roles as Magneto, Professor X, Mystique and Beast, respectively.

Also to return are Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, Evan Peters as Quicksilver and Lucas Till as Havok. Some new characters included into the cast are: Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Ben Hardy as Angel, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Olivia Munn as Pyslocke and Lana Condor as Jubilee.
