Country music lost one of its sweetest couples last week, with multiplatinum stars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert announcing their divorce in a joint statement through the Associated Press.

"This is not the future we envisioned," the couple, who were together for 10 years and married for four, said in the statement. "And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter."

This "personal matter" seems to be carefully kept under wraps, as the FOX News reports that the two had gone great lengths to keep the divorce as private as possible. The two did not disclose the reason behind their split, although tabloids have been reporting marital problems between the two for years, and that Lambert had been cheating on Shelton with other men. These tabloid rumors had not been addressed by both parties.

According to the news network, Lambert and Shelton headed out from their home in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to another county two hours away to file the divorce petition. Additionally, Lambert and Shelton petitioned for a protective order to seal the said documents. The petition was granted by associate district judge for Pottawatomie County John D. Gardner. Former Oklahoma Representative Aaron Stiles told FOX that this is against the law.

"In Oklahoma, we value open records. I think we have some of the best open records law in the country," Stiles told FOX 411. "I cannot imagine a compelling privacy interest that would cause a judge to seal [all of the divorce filings]. I'm not sure exactly what information would require a court record to be sealed."

Meanwhile, Lambert made an appearance after their divorce announcement on Tuesday night at a Nashville club alongside Natalie Hemby, Jessi Alexander, Courtney Cole, Clare Dunn and RaeLynn, the L.A. Times reports.

"[Miranda Lambert] came out smiling but was very subdued. She was really nervous and even said so. She was very shy at first. A little later, she loosened up and started having a good time," an eyewitness recounts to E! News.

The Grammy Award winning songstress told her audience as an introduction to her hit Dear Diamonds: "I've been living off caffeine and sad songs lately. So, we're going to drink some caffeine and play a sad song."

Similarly, Blake Shelton performed at the Country Jam USA music festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where he said: "I'm nervous tonight and I tend to drink when I get nervous," People reports. Further details about their amicable split have yet to surface if the former couple choose to speak about it as the divorce gets finalized.
