'The Voice' Season 9 Judges: Rihanna Joins as Key Advisor
Rihanna will be joining the 9th season of "The Voice" to be the key advisor for the competition, as announced by NBC boss Bob Greenblatt Thursday.
NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt announced Thursday during the TCA press tour in Beverly Hills, California that the "Umbrella" singer, Rihanna will be joining the season 9 of the singing TV series "The Voice," according to a report by Hollywood Life.
The Barbadian singer-songwriter will join returning judges Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell in the upcoming season. She will be mentoring contestants from all four teams during the knockout rounds, according to channel 24.
"We landed Rihanna to be the key advisor to all the coaches this fall," Greenblatt told reporters during the press tour, says a report by E Online. "This is one of music's true supervisors coming on board to influence the lives and careers of the performers."
The outlet added that long-time judge Christina Aguilera will not be returning to the upcoming season, with Stefani taking her place. The "Say Something" singer is taking the time off to make new music and mothering her two children, 7-year-old Max and 5-month-old Summer Rain.
"The producers feel the best chance they have is with Rihanna and they would love that because they haven't had a black female judge yet, and the audience she would bring would be amazing and they know she would be incredible," an unnamed insider told Hollywood Life. "Mark Burnett is very convincing so we will see what happens!"
According to Variety, the 9th season of "The Voice" will begin on Sept. 21 on NBC and will be hosted by Carson Daly.
