'Spider-Man' 2017 Reboot: Andrew Garfield Opens Up on Tom Holland's Casting as New Superhero
Former "Spider-Man" actor Andrew Garfield talks about the new superhero franchise and the casting of Tom Holland as the new friendly neighborhood superhero. The 31-year-old British actor praised Tom Holland's casting as the new Spider-Man.
"It feels lovely, especially because Tom Holland is a really, really great actor," Garfield said in a report by ET Online. "He was in this movie The Impossible and he was just this incredibly powerful, sensitive, just wonderful young actor."
Garfield added that Holland's being a dancer is the "right form" for Spider-Man and that he is watching out for Holland's performance of the iconic superhero. "I'm just really excited to just be a fan again as opposed to bearing the weight of it," Garfield explained.
According to an article by Metro, Tom Holland will first appear as Spider-Man in the 2016 Marvel film "Captain America: Civil War" and then have the reboot movie in 2017. The new Spider-Man movie is still unknown and details are still scarce.
Garfield is at peace with the takeover of one of Hollywood's hottest roles. Speaking to Marc Malkin of E Online, Garfield was thankful he was able to do the movie twice.
"I got to do it twice. I got to meet incredible artists. I got to have a wild experience and now I get to let it go, which is actually a really lovely thing," Garfield said. "I'm very kind of at peace with it. It ran its course."
The British actor first debuted the superhero role in 2012 for "The Amazing Spider-Man" and again in 2014 for the sequel titled "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." The franchise was rebooted once again because Sony Pictures "rushed" the previous Spider-Man movies and failed to break-even the company's promotional budget despite being a huge blockbuster success, according to Screen Rant.
According to Variety, the untitled standalone Spider-Man film will be released on theaters in July 28, 2017. Amy Pascal has been assigned to produce the new reboot.
"I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie," said Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios President. "Marvel's involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU."
Michael Lynton, Sony Pictures chairman added that partnering with Marvel Studios is "the right decision" for their business and for the fans of the superhero. Sony partnered with Marvel in order to put Spider-Man back in the Marvel Universe.
