Alexis Bledel has been chosen to play as Leila Williams in the sequel, "Fifty Shades Darker" based on the book trilogy by EL James.

Fashion & Style Magazine confirmed that Alexis Bledel will be joining the cast of "Fifty Shades Darker" as Leila Williams, one of the former submissives of Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan). In the second book, Williams and her mental issues play an important role in the relationship between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele (played by Dakota Johnson).

In the past, many fans of the book originally wanted Bledel to play the role of Anastasia opposite Matt Bomer as Christian. There was even a petition launched in Change.org two years ago by fans who wanted the two to take the main titular roles of the franchise.

Bledel talked to Elle about being fan-casted last year and said that she only read the first book.

"I read it, and I don't know...I think people react to things for different reasons, and our culture definitely goes through phases. It's interesting to see what becomes popular, because it must be a response to something we're all going through," Bledel said in the interview.

Now that the role of Steele have been played by Johnson, News Everyday reports that fans still want to see Bledel in the franchise as Williams. Model and actress Cara Delevingne has also been rumored to have been associated to the role before the casting was made official.

According to Jack Carr of Movie Pilot there are many ways that the sequel could be made even greater if the makers of the second film would take note of what the first film lacked.

Carr stated that that "Fifty Shades Darker" needed to be "kinkier" as it is based off on a BDSM, dominant-submissive relationship of Grey and Steele, as written by EL James. Carr also suggested to put "something iconic" in the sequel if "Fifty Fifty Shades wants to leave a legacy behind" similar to the erotic thriller movie "Basic Instinct."

Another suggestion is to create or develop more chemistry or at the very least, a friendship between the two lead actors. Carr stated that Dornan and Johnson "seem to truly despise each other" despite having been working together.

Since there will be three movies, the second movie could also do with a jealous Mrs. Robinson subplot. In the book, Elena or Mrs. Robinson was an amiable character who looked out for Christian's interest but Carr says that the producers and director of the franchise could use Elena in a jealous fight for Christian instead.

"Fifty Shades Darker" will be released in theaters on Feb. 10, 2017.
