'Game of Thrones' bags 'Guinness World Records' award for biggest broadcast
Actress Maisie Williams accepts the "biggest broadcast" award in behalf of the cast and crew for the wildly popular HBO series "Game of Thrones."
"Game of Thrones" broke the world record of having the largest broadcast in the world. Entertainment Weekly reports Maisie Williams, the actress of the key character "Arya Stark," received the award by Guinness World Records. The 2016 edition book of the Guinness World Records will be released on Sept. 10.
"So pleased for 'Game of Thrones' to be a part of Guinness World Records," Williams said as she received the award, according to the report by Xpose. "I'm not going to tell my step-brother as he gets the book every year for Christmas. I can't wait to see the look on his face."
According to the International Business Times, the record was broken during the showing of Season 5 Episode 2 in 173 countries in April 20 this year. According to the report, the broadcast was made simultaneously to fend off the illegal pirating and download of the show.
However, the attempt by the network still failed to address the piracy problems because the series is still the most pirated show in the world. According to Forbes, the most illegally downloaded episode is Season 5 Episode 5 "Kill the Boy," which acquired over 2.2 million downloads in twelve hours. The report stated that it was the second episode to be released on schedule as the first four episodes of season 5 of "Game of Thrones" was leaked weeks before.
The previous holder of the award was "CSI" which first held the title five weeks earlier.
Other Guiness World record holders are PewDiePie, a Youtuber; popstar Taylor Swift; and the show "The Voice."
Variety reports that PewDiePie holds the most number of subscribers on Youtube with 36 million. He holds many more subscribers than Taylor Swift and One Direction combined.
As for Swift, she holds the record for most "million-selling weeks" for her albums "Speak Now," "Red, and "1989."
"The Voice" earned the title of most-tweeted TV series in the US. It garnered 310,000 tweets in just one minute.
In the upcoming Season 6 of "Game of Thrones," Cinema Blend reports that Euron Greyjoy is set to appear in the upcoming season. He will be played by Danish actor Pilou Asbæk. This long-overdue character from Georg RR Martin's fantasy series "A Song of Ice and Fire" has a very important role and this suggests that we will see the Iron Islands in Season 6.
The International Business Times confirms that a scene for the Kingsmoot was recently filmed by the cast and crew at Ballintoy Harbor and the filming will continue until the week ends.
