"Complicated" singer Avril Lavigne and Nickelback's Chad Kroeger have announced their separation after two years of marriage, but will remain "best of friends."

Thirty-year-old Lavigne posted the announcement on her Instagram page.

"It is with heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other. To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support," the Canadian singer wrote on the caption of the Instagram photo of her with Kroeger.

According to the Huffington Post, the separation was already expected as there were rumors surrounding the two since September last year. The outlet added that Lavigne celebrated her 30th birthday without Kroeger.

There is no word if the couple will divorce. The outlet added that it was the first marriage for Kroeger and the second one for Lavigne. The Canadian songstress divorced Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 in 2009 after three years of marriage. Coincidentally, Whibley remarried on Sunday to girlfriend Ariana Cooper.

The LA Times reports that Lavigne and Kroeger met when the two worked together on the former's album "Here's To Never Growing Up." They married on July 1, 2013, after getting engaged in August 2012 and after dating for a month. The ex-couple had a gothic-themed wedding held in a medieval castle in the South of France with the both of them wearing black to suit the theme.

When Lavigne disclosed her battle against Lyme disease last April, she noted that Kroeger has "been very supportive." According to the report by PEOPLE, while bedridden, the singer's mom moved in to take care of her while Kroeger was there for her despite her busy schedule.

Last June, Lavigne told ABC in an interview that she was feeling better.

"I'm about halfway through my treatment," she told Jesse Palmer of ABC News.  "I'm doing a lot better. Seeing a lot of progress. ... I'm just really grateful to know that, like, I will make [a] 100 percent recovery."

After her long absence from the music scene, Lavigne recently sang her iconic song "Complicated" onstage with Taylor Swift during the former's 1989 World Tour in San Diego, according to E Online. The website stated that the singer is still recovering and that she is living in LA.
