'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date, price, & news: 2.9 version to come out on the PS3 and PS4
While gamers have been patiently waiting for news about "Kingdom Hearts III," information about a "Kingdom Hearts 2.9." has been leaked. Not much has been released about KH2.9, probably because most gamers believe that the game is fake.
Even though most gamers will not remember or simply overlooked the piece of information, 2.9 was placed on the Square Enix roster at E3 2015, seen in the video below. Everyone dismissed the game as a hoax, when the gaming company failed to talk about it at E3.
However, a recently leaked profile on LinkedIn contains some compelling evidence, which supports the idea that KH2.9 is for real, reports Twinfinite. The profile belongs to Richard W. VanDeventer, a game director and game designer.
In VanDeventer's profile, he listed experience working on "Kingdom Hearts 2.9," leading everyone to think that the game is actually being made. According to the LinkedIn profile, VanDeventer has been working on KH2.9 for a period of ten months for PlayStation 3 and PS4, in Osaka, Japan.
He claims to have worked on game idea planning and documentation for the 2.9 version as well as the game's check and balance. In addtion, the game designer has helped Square Enix with boss planning, along with Attraction Flow planning and documentation.
GameSpot speculates that it will be an updated version of "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX," which came out December 2014 for PS3 exclusively. Meanwhile, GameZone suggests that 2.9 could be a gaming bundle, which might include the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and the HD 2.5 ReMIX.
However, The Gamers Joint, a YouTube channel, has a more interesting theory concerning KH2.9. The YouTube channel's spokesperson believes that 2.9 could actually be a prequel to KH III.
The same concept can be seen in the release of "Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes," which eventually acted as a prequel for "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain."
The Gamers Joint supports its theory by pointing out that Attraction Flow is actually new to the Kingdom Hearts franchise, and will debut on KHIII. Unless Square Enix is planning on introducing Attraction Flow to older KH games, The Gamers Joint's theory seems be spot on.
GameZone believes that Kingdom Hearts 2.9 will presented at the Tokyo Game Show this year. Square Enix will be heading the event showcasing games like Final Fantasy XV, Dragon Quest Builders, and Star Ocean 5.
It has also scheduled an event, labeled "Secret," which may just be the unveiling of "Kingdom Hearts 2.9." As for "Kingdom Hearts III," very little has been announced about the development of the game, including a tentative release date.
The most recent news about KHIII was the inclusion of San Fransokyo as a world in the game. Baymax will be fighting alongside Sora against a heartless version of himself, reports Latinos Health.
