Joining Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth in "Bridget Jones's Baby" is Patrick Dempsey after he hung his doctor's coat as Dr. McDreamy in "Grey's Anatomy."

Patrick Dempsey, 49, has booked his first project post-McDreamy to play beside Renee Zellweger as Bridget Jones and Colin Firth and Mark Darcy in the third movie about Bridget Jones's life.

In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly in April, Dempsey said of his image as Dr. Derek McDreamy Shepherd after it was killed off earlier this year: "Will I be allowed to do something different? Is Derek so identifiable that I can't go on and be someone else? That will be the challenge. To see if people embrace me as someone else."

Dempsey has played the Seattle Grace surgeon since 2005 and told the outlet that he "wanted to try something different."

US Magazine speculates that Dempsey will be replacing Hugh Grant as Daniel Cleaver to rival Colin Firth's Mark Darcy for Jones's affection.

Plot details for "Bridget Jones's Baby" are still tightly under wraps. However, according to Inquisitr, the third movie will put Jones, a publishing executive, in her '40s. Based on the title, it is a possibility that there will be a love rivalry, and that the movie will revolve around the question of who fathered Bridget Jones's baby.

The movie franchise is based on the works and novels of Helen Fielding, author of "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason," which were the titles of the first two films. Interestingly, the third movie is not based on Fielding's 2013 book "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy" which preceded the second book.

According to the Daily Mail, the author Fielding herself wrote the screenplay together with David Nicholls. It will be directed by Sharon Maguire, the director of the first movie. The movie production will begin on Oct. 2 in the UK.

Meanwhile, "Grey's Anatomy" fans are clamoring to have their McDreamy back and even going so far as having a petition to bring the popular surgeon back to life. According to a report by Metro, Ellen Pompeo, who plays the titular character Meredith Grey, is pissed off that the fans of the show think that her role is over since Shepherd's death.

"Let's keep it really real for a second and say this is really difficult for my ego." Pompeo told EW, according to the report. "It's like, Annalise Keating carries the show, Olivia Pope carries the show," the actress continues. "But somehow, Meredith Grey needs someone. Why can't I just be the lead of the show the way Annalise and Olivia can? Why can't I be on that poster by myself?'

Grey's Anatomy Season 12 premieres Thursday, Sept. 24.
