Kelly Clarkson cancels last six shows of 'Piece by Piece' tour
The original American Idol and queen of cover songs Kelly Clarkson is taking a break from her "Piece by Piece" Tour, as per doctors' orders, the NY Daily News reports. The 33-year-old singer announced via her Twitter account that she had to cancel the last six shows of her tour because her doctors said she needed vocal rest.
"So bummed that I have to cancel some of my tour dates. This kills me, but doctors are saying I need to rest my voice!" Clarkson tweeted on Saturday, along with a photo listing the shows that were nixed.
"I can't wait to get healthy and see y'all back on the road soon. I hate canceling," she continued. "And I am truly sorry to my fans that have been excited to see this show."
She also said, "Please know that I never cancel anything unless it's absolutely necessary."
Rolling Stone also reports that the singer experienced major vocal problems last year after giving birth to her first child, River Rose. Clarkson admitted that she thought she had lost her voice for good.
"I literally had a moment where I cried and drank wine all day," Clarkson told Rolling Stone. "I was like, 'Oh, God, I'm not going to be a singer anymore!' I was bawling to my husband and like, completely hammered, just going, 'Oh my God, it's over, I don't know what I'm going to do. I guess I could do more charity work.' Like, I didn't know what I was going to do."
Clarkson's tourmates, the Grammy Award winning group Pentatonix, also took to Twitter to express their support for the singer, as they wrote, "As fun as it's been, health is always #1, and we want @kelly_clarkson to have a fast recovery- for herself, her family, and her fans."
Pentatonix also wrote, "Words cannot describe how grateful we are to have been part of this journey. Thank you for inviting us, @kelly_clarkson."
It has been an emotional and memorable tour so far for the "Invincible" singer, as ET Online reports that she announced her pregnancy in the middle of her Staples Center show in Los Angeles.
Clarkson broke down in tears while performing "Piece by Piece," a track she wrote about her relationship with her father, telling the audience, "Not everybody is born with a great dad or a great role model."
She praised her husband of two years, Brandon Blackstock, saying, "I married such a great lover."
The singer went on to say, "I was not planning on announcing this. I'm totally pregnant again."
Clarkson is set to get back on the road on Oct. 1, as she graces the stage of the Canadian Tire Center in Ontario.
