Sandra Bullock's 'Miss Congeniality' character is George Clooney's dream role
In Sandra Bullock's latest film, she plays a political consultant that was originally written to befit American actor and friend George Clooney. During the Toronto Film Festival, George was asked which of Sandra's iconic roles would he want to play, if the tables turned. His answer had fans, the media, and even Sandra, laughing.
People Magazine writes that Clooney candidly answered the question by saying it will definitely be Bullock's "Miss Congeniality" character. He even jokingly told the reporters that he was sure everyone's thinking it, that's why it seems unnecessary to say it out loud. Bullock joined in the hullabaloo by asking the crowd, "Have you seen his legs?"
The two were among the cast and crew who attended the "Our Brand is Crisis" Toronto International Film Festival press conference last Saturday. This is the second time George and Sandra teamed up for a movie. The first one was in 2013 when they both appeared in the film "Gravity". Sandra claims it was always a fun experiencing doing movies with George.
The Inquistr reports that according to Clooney, the script of the movie has been on shelf for years because of scheduling conflicts, as it was initially slated for him. However, when Bullock contacted him regarding the role, he gladly agreed on the gender swap of the character. Clooney, who produced the film, has been known to be vocal about gender issues in Hollywood and believes that if people thought out of the box, it doesn't need to be an issue.
"Our Brand is Crisis" is inspired by Rachel Boynton's 2005 documentary about James Carville, a political strategist during the 2002 Bolivian presidential race, The Los Angeles Times notes. Bullock plays fictional character Jane Bodine, a campaign consultant who is asked to make a turnaround against the leading politician who is managed by her long-time nemesis, a role played by Billy Bob Thornton.
David Gordon Green, the director of the movie, states that the film is a "healthy smoothie", which means it has combined humor and heart to make it more meaningful. However, the film received mixed reviews after it's Toronto International Film Festival premiere. Most critics states that the film is a mess, while "Variety" gave it three out of five stars, calling Sandra's character one of the best roles played by a woman in the last ten years.
The film will be released in movie theaters this coming October 30.
