'Captain America: Civil War' release date, news & spoilers: Scarlet Witch is a 'wild card'

Marvel is brewing something really interesting with "Captain America: Civil War," as evidenced by Elizabeth Olsen's statements about how the Scarlet Witch's storyline will play out in the next installment of the franchise.

Olsen, who is currently at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her latest film "I Saw the Light" with another Avengers star, Tom Hiddleston, spoke with MTV about her character's development since she was introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron this year.

For those who haven't seen the film, the Scarlet Witch goes through a dramatic personal loss and is drawn to a very conflicted place. She told MTV however, that since the events of Age of Ultron, "She’s OK. She’s doing alright. She’s confused, she’s conflicted. She’s found some people she thinks she connects with, but she’s doing alright."

Age of Ultron served to somehow set up the events of Civil War, with Olsen's character dropping one of the most quotable lines in the film in reference to Stark, "Ultron can't see the difference between saving the world and destroying it. Where do you think he gets that from?"

However, in the promo art for Civil War, which pitches Steve Rogers' Captain America against Tony Stark's Iron Man, we do not see Olsen's Scarlet Witch in sight. Cinemablend reports that as per the promo art, Team Captain America will feature Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Agent 13 (Emily Van Camp), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), and Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). Meanwhile, Iron Man's team will be composed of War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Vision (Paul Bettany), and surprisingly, Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), whom we saw fight side by side with Steve Rogers in Captain America Winter Soldier.

Olsen told MTV, "They released images of Team Cap and Team Iron Man. [Scarlet Witch] wasn’t there. She’s always the wild card. I like being the wild card."

That leaves more room for more theories on where Scarlet Witch's loyalties are, following the events of Age of Ultron. Speaking of switching sides, it seems that Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes is ready to fight alongside his best bud Steve Rogers in Civil War.

Stan, who is also at TIFF to promote his new film The Martian, recently spoke to We Got This Covered, saying that there will be "Some brutal fighting, some serious, serious fighting like you haven’t really seen before in any of the other films. Which I’m really proud to say. And a whole lot of character and heart, because there’s a lot of people that are in the film, but you’re going to get a lot of character from everybody."

Captain America: Civil War is set to be released on May 6, 2016.
