'Jane the Virgin' season 2 cast news & update: Singer Kesha nails audition on her day off
Singer/songwriter Kesha is slowly but surely making her way back to the limelight following the fiasco she had with producer Dr. Luke and her stint at the Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center in early 2014. It seems she's ready to put that in her past as E! Online reported just two weeks ago that the 28-year-old performer is set to appear in The CW's "Jane the Virgin." Kesha's guest role follows that of the Queen of Pop herself, Britney Spears. Unlike Spears who plays herself, however, Kesha will play the role of Jane's new neighbor, Annabelle, who dislikes Jane's new baby.
Kesha spoke to People about how she landed the role, saying, "I was really excited! They called me randomly. I was finally supposed to have a day off because I hadn't had one in three weeks, and they called me and they were like, 'Can you do this audition?' And I was like, 'Ugh, today's my day off.' And they said, 'Oh, it's for Jane the Virgin.' And I said, 'Oh yeah, f--- yeah.'"
Kesha added that she is "just used to making an ass of myself in front of people. I feel like most auditions, at least for comedy, is just seeing how much of an ass you're willing to make of yourself. If you're willing to go the distance, then you usually get the job!"
Her audition was indeed a success, landing her the role of Annabelle, who debuts on the upcoming season's second episode, slated to air on Oct. 19.
Kesha's career seems to be looking up, as the singer has been working on new music and even performed at L.A. Pride in June, Ryan Seacrest reports.
Kesha told People: "I'm really lucky that I have a career that lets me explore outlets for my creativity and different mediums."
Now that the singer is dabbling in acting, she admitted: "It's challenging for me because I'm used to standing behind a song. I spend a lot of time writing my songs. I go over and over them and they can take me weeks to write."
Kesha explained to People, "In acting, you're actually delivering lines someone else has written, which is different for me because I write all my own music. You're putting yourself in a character that you haven't created. Like in my music, I've created the character that I portray. And then this, you're trying to portray someone else's character that they've created, which is really fun and exciting."
For those who can't wait to get their hands on her new music however, Kesha reassured her fans earlier this year: "I will release new music as soon as I possibly can animals."
