Will Smith, who plays Deadshot in the DC comics film "Suicide Squad," revealed in an interview that he hasn't met Jared Leto yet. At least out of the costume.
In an interview with Beats Radio 1, Smith revealed that Jared Leto stayed true to his character as Joker that Smith hasn't actually met the actor himself when he was out of costume despite working together for half a year.
"I've never actually met Jared Leto," said Smith, according to the report by Entertainment Weekly. "We worked together for 6 months and we've never exchanged a word outside of 'Action!' and 'Cut!' I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be 'Hey, Jared. What's up?' He was all in on the Joker."
Additionally, with regards to Leto's commitment to his character, Smith isn't the only one who felt it. Actress Margot Robbie who plays Harley Quinn was said to have received a pet rat from Leto before the filming of "Suicide Squad." Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot, reportedly stated that the actor sent Smith with bullets and gifted the whole cast with a dead hog.
"He sent [Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it-a live rat," Beach said in an interview with E! Online. "It was beautiful. Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter."
In addition to the dead hog, the actor also sent the cast a video.
"Basically, what he said was, 'Guys, I can't be there but I want you to know I'm doing my work as hard as you guys,'" Beach explained. "The video he showed is in character. It blew our minds away. Then we realized that day, this is real."
Beach also recounted the time where he first met Leto's character, The Joker.
"He encompasses this beautiful man and he shows it in, 'Hello, how are you?,' but in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior where you're in fear," Beach said. "But you love him because he has both of those genuine sides."
According to Vanity Fair, Leto isn't the first actor to completely immerse themselves in their character, The Joker. Leto's predecessor, Heath Ledger was known to take one month to get to know his character. Ledger's father, Kim, revealed that his son "locked himself in a hotel, apartment" for weeks so he can transform himself to his character.
"Suicide Squad" is coming to theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
