The fifth "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie will only be "similar" to the first film "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," and not a reboot, said British actress Kaya Scodelario.
While promoting "The Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials," the actress talked to Digital Spy about the film.
"It [does have] a lot more of the first movie, that's what they wanted to bring it back to," she said. "[The producers] want to take it back to the beginning again. They wanted it to have this epic journey, and for it to make sense, and for it to tie things up, and also lead to new storylines."
The 23-year-old also shared that she will be playing the role of Carina Smyth, an astronomer and academic.
"She's fighting for the right to study at university, because women couldn't at that time," Scodelario added.
"So she's on her own journey—looking for the trident of Poseidon—and she has a diary with clues, and she encounters Jack Sparrow along the way, and he messes everything up. As he does. And it's fun!"
The actress essentially confirmed that the fifth movie will include Poseidon's Trident. According to Venture Capital Post, the fifth movie will revolve around Jack Sparrow's (played by Johnny Depp) quest to control the ocean by acquiring the Trident of Poseidon. He will be battling it out against Captain Salazar (played by Javier Bardem).
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is directed by Norwegian newcomers, Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg.
The movie will also feature the return of Orland Bloom as Will Turner, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa and Stephen Graham as Scrum. According to Mirror, Keira Knightley will not be coming back to retake the role of Elizabeth Swan.
According to International Business Times, Bloom said that his character, Will Turner is the new Davey Jones. The role was originally played by Bill Nighly and is one of the main antagonists in the whole franchise. He first appeared in the second movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" and returned in the third one "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."
Bloom mentioned that it will be "fun" to take on the role of a character who is "rumbling round the bottom of the ocean" and "get[ting] all gnarly."
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" will be coming to theaters on July 7, 2017.
