Fears of early death pushed "Trumbo" actor John Goodman to shed some pounds through diet and exercise.

John Goodman who stands at 6 feet, 2 inches admitted in 2011 that his weight used to nearly be 400 pounds, according to NY Post.

According to the outlet, the actor also stopped drinking in 2007 and took actions to ensure that he was on the right path by hiring fitness guru, Mackie Shilstone.

Shilstone said he introduced Goodman to "Mediterranean-style eating plan"—one that leans heavily toward fish, nuts, olive oil, vegetables and fruit." Additionally, the actor also exercised six times a week with the help of the treadmill and elliptical bicycle to make sure that he reaches his daily goal of 10,000 to 12,000 steps daily.

Daily Mail reports that Goodman has dropped more than 200 pounds in the last five years. This was evident when the 63-year old actor was on the red carpet last month promoting his new film "Trumbo."

It was revealed that Goodman lost more than 85 pounds in 2010, around the same time he also gave up sugar. However, around 2013, the actor gained weight again and just recently he shed the pounds and looked great in a suit during the film promotion event.

"(The first time) He did quite well. But the real difference is (this time) you see a picture - but that is the tip of the iceberg," said Shilstone. "It was literally a two to three-year project, It was a lifestyle change. He made a decision."

The decision was made when Shilstone told the actor how he is going to die.

"He said: 'I didn't want to live like that anymore.' And I said, "well let me tell you how you're gonna die",' the guru said. "John made that decision, he came to that meeting of the minds."

Shilstone adds that there is no better time to change your health and lifestyle than now. He cites the actor who at 63 years old has undergone two 100-pound weight loss in just a couple of years.

"If you have time to make a change in your life...the time top make the change is now," he said. "It could really prove to people out there who have a sense, it's too late to me. Can you imagine at 63 years of age, you have lost 100lb not once but maybe twice?"

The outlet reports that Shilstone is a very successful fitness guru and has worked with the likes of tennis champion Serena Williams and Peyton Manning of Denver Broncos.
