Carrie Fisher apparently lost 35 pounds to prepare for her role in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and credits her cardio and low-calorie diet for her weight loss.

According to Examiner, Fisher was ordered by film producers along with co-star Mark Hamill (who played Luke Skywalker) to lose weight to prepare for the film. The outlet adds that the two have put on considerable weight in the 37 years after they have starred in the franchise.

"Mark and Carrie need to be as close to their appearance in the earlier movies as possible," the report said. "Producers are keen to help out and have offered support. The budget is huge so there will be no expense spared."

Fisher reportedly lost 35 pounds by following a 1,500-calorie per day diet coupled with intense workouts. She was down to size eight after nine months by following the eating regiment and doing 45-minute cardio on the elliptical trainer or treadmill five times a week, Celebrity Health Fitness reports.

Fisher was reportedly glad to do the latest "Star Wars" film because it motivated her to lose weight.

"I'm glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape," Fisher said as reported by Examiner.

Fisher, 59, is best known for her role as Princess Leia in the original "Star Wars" trilogy. Many people still remember her iconic costume as "slave Leia" and with the premiere of the latest movie, many trolls and critics commented about her "aging badly."

The actress took to Twitter to slam the body shamers online:

"Please stop debating about whether or not I aged well," she wrote. "Unfortunately, it hurts all three of my feelings. My body hasn't aged as well as I have. Blow us."

She then added: "Youth and beauty are not accomplishments, they're the temporary happy by-products of time and/or DNA. Don't hold your breath for either."

Speaking to Good Housekeeping U.K., Fisher also aired out her grievances on the pressure of losing weight to prepare for the role. She told the magazine that the film producers didn't want to hire "all of her, only about three-quarters" unless she lost 35 pounds. She further explained that the film industry has not changed at all; that it prioritizes appearance and weight above others and finds it to be "messed up."

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is expected to surpass James Cameron's "Avatar" box-office world record. According to the Guardian, the film might surpass the record this weekend.
