A class-action lawsuit was made against EOS lip balm company by customers who claim that the product caused rashes and blisters on their mouths.
Evolution of Smooth (EOS), a company known for their popular lip balm has been hit with a lawsuit by Rachel Cronin. According to the complainant, her use of the product made her lips dry and irritated. She posted pictures of her lips on her Facebook Page and there were people who came forward to share that they experienced something similar after using the product.
Popular celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears are known users of the circular-shaped lip balm.
In an interview with ABC News, Cronin revealed that when she contacted EOS about what happened, the company told her to get medical treatment.
"Within 48 hours, my lips became extremely dry and irritated. They were flaking all around the outside," she told the outlet.
"I couldn't fully open my mouth to eat because sometimes it would crack," she explained. "I couldn't smile fully because it would crack and bleed."
In the class-action lawsuit that was filed this week, Cronin says that hours after applying the lip balm, her lips felt like "sandpaper." When she reapplied the product it became worse as it stated that her "lips did not become smooth, and began severely cracking on the edges, causing flaking and bleeding from the cracks." According to US Magazine, Cronin's lawsuit also claimed that she experienced blisters and rashes on her lips and the surrounding area which made her go to the hospital. The condition allegedly lasted for more than a week.
The lawsuit seeks damages and claims that the company has deceived its customers by marketing the product as organic.
The company released a statement on their Facebook page saying their products are safe and believe the "lawsuit is without merit."
"Some of you may have seen reports of a lawsuit filed against our company. We wanted to be sure that you, our valued customers and fans, know that the health and well-being of our customers are our top priority," they wrote.
"Our products are safe to use, are made with the highest quality ingredients and they all meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set out by our industry. An independent laboratory puts each of our products through a battery of rigorous testing to ensure this is the case."
EOS also told ABC News that all the ingredients they use their products are safe, FDA-approved and passed the standards of the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Board (CIR).
