There is no doubt that "Fast and Furious 7" was a success. The last installment was the most emotional film in the franchise after Paul Walker's untimely death. "Fast 7" broke records and is the highest grossing film in the franchise. In the recently concluded People's Choice Awards, it won two recognitions. Now, how would the team push through "Fast and Furious 8" without one of their closest brothers?
Jordana Brewster, who played as Walker's on-screen wife in the series told HuffPost Live that none of the cast members were sure to return to the franchise after Walker's death. She stressed that the film without Brian O'Connor would be bittersweet.
Fans feel them. It's indeed difficult to imagine "Fast and Furious" without Walker but everyone has to move on. It looks like that the team is now motivated to move forward with "Fast and Furious 8."
The "Fast and Furious" star and producer Vin Diesel teased fans with the first photo of "Fast and Furious 8," The Economic Times reported. On his Instagram account, he shared an image showing the bird's eye-view of New York City.
The photo features New York's skyscrapers including the popular Empire State Building. The photo reads "New Roads Ahead Fast 8 April 2017."
It's not surprising to see New York in the photo because they already announced that "Fast and Furious 8" would be filmed in the Big Apple. Parent Herald previously reported that this move is another tribute to Walker and they will be shooting in New York.
Diesel appeared on the "Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" where he confirmed the trilogy. The star-producer was asked by the host where the next franchise will be and he answered, "New York, baby!"
"Something that people don't know is the first movie came from a Vibe article that was about street races in New York, and the director and producer at the time reset the whole movie in LA. But the Vibe article that the whole franchise was started from actually originated in New York. So, we're finally bringing it back home, baby!" he explained.
Michelle Rodriguez told People at the UNITAS Gala Against Sex Trafficking in New York that "Fast 8" would pay tribute to Walker. "[Paul] wanted to bring it back down to the core, which is the racing," she said. "He was always complaining about the special effects and the blue screens," and added that the actor wanted to end the "exaggerated explosions and crazy plot lines." She hinted that they would keep the upcoming film "true to Paul's wishes."
"Fast and Furious 8" is slated for release in April 2017.
